High-end dealers stocking supercars are expanding across the state, wagering that Michigan's wealth is quieter — and larger — than its reputation suggests.

Michigan doesn't have the flashy reputation of coastal wealth hubs, but a growing number of exotic car dealers are betting the money is here — just quieter. High-end showrooms stocking six- and seven-figure machinery are expanding across the state, wagering on a customer base that prefers substance to spectacle.

The quiet money thesis

The dealers' pitch is that Michigan wealth is understated and deep — built on industry, real estate, and family businesses rather than flash. That customer, they argue, buys the exotic car but skips the theater, valuing the machine over the attention it draws.

"My best clients drive a pickup to come buy the supercar," said dealership manager Vincent Oteri. "They just don't advertise what's in the third garage bay."

Service is the moat

The real business, dealers say, isn't the sale — it's the years of specialized service that follow. Exotic cars need expert maintenance, and the dealerships that can provide it build lasting, lucrative relationships. Betting on Michigan means betting there's a critical mass of owners who'll keep those service bays busy. So far, the expanding showrooms suggest the bet is paying off — quietly, of course.
